“Time to spare, go by air” is an expression general aviation pilots use as a joke, but it’s only funny because it’s true. That last gasp winter rain front is still swirling around the Bay Area, giving us rain then sun, rain then sun, and the forecast says there’s enough of a break on Sunday to get out of Dodge to SoCal and then to Flagstaff AZ. So, we’re hanging around, packing, checking our Foreflight routes, and texting our catsitter departure updates.

We figured out we can stopover one night in Virginia Beach so I can show Dan my old house, high school and hangout haunts. Well, one of three old high schools. And hopefully cycle on the boardwalk. Our current schedule if the weather is perfect across the US (which is doubtful):

• May 7 – depart Novato – stopover in Flagstaff AZ
• May 8 – stopover in Weatherford OK
• May 9 & 10 stay with Ben & Ayla in Nashville
• May 11 – Lunch with Bob McElroy in Knoxville
• May 11 – 13 stay with Chip & Ruth in Charlottesville
• May 14 – stopover in Virginia Beach
• May 15 – 16 stay with Kitt and Doug in Lewes DE
• May 17 – stopover on Jekyll Island GA
• May 18 – stopover in Gastons, Lakeview AR
• May 19 – 20 stay with Rick and Kim in Berthoud CO
• May 21 – 22 stay with Cindy and Don in Moab
• May 23 – Grand canyon
• May 24/25 – Fly home – route TBD
